Welfare & Office facilities for a major transport Project

The Requirement

We were tasked to provide a modular building, initially set over 6 floors to be located in central London. This building having Welfare facilities for the site on the first 2 floors, Induction and training rooms on the 3rd floor and then Offices, meeting rooms and white collar welfare facilities over floors 4, 5 & 6. Due to restrictive power being available in the initial location and also another site in an undercroft close by becoming available the project accommodation was changed to a large 2 storey building incorporating Offices, Meeting rooms, Training & Induction rooms, Toilets, Showers and Kitchens in one location and then another smaller 2 storey building to incorporate Welfare facilities for the site workers in another location. Due to the clients main project deadline the building needed to be built and delivered within a very short space of time, leaving little or no margin for error.

The Solution

55 Steel framed modules were manufactured off site and lifted into position using a large forklift as a crane could not be used due to the height restriction. At some points during the installation there were just inches to manouvre the bays between the concrete pillars in the undercroft holding the structure above. The installation also had to take place during the night due to traffic restrictions in central London. Within a period of 3 weeks the building was installed and the client was moving their desks in and starting work. Once the client had successfully moved onto the offices, we were then left with phase 2. A further 22 bays to be installed on the main site giving welfare facilities to the site workers. Again this installation had to take place over night because of traffic restrictions.  After only a few weeks the building was ready for occupying by the client allowing them to continue their site works and meet there programme schedule.
